CURRICULUM

The Demonstration School of KKU "Satit Modindaeng", follows the Basic Education Core Cirriculum B.E. 2551 (A.D. 2008) integrated with the school's vision. The parts of the lesson plans of the teachers were patterned to this curriculum including the main contents and learning standards, learners' quality, learners' key competencies and desirable characteristics. Even their books were guided by the curriculum. In English books, each unit was divided into 7 parts- vocabulary, reading, grammar, listening speaking, writing and culture to make sure that the bodies of knowledge, significant skills and characteristics in the Basic Education Core Curriculum will be achieved.

MY TEACHING PLAN

My mentor, Miss Atjima Kosa and other English teachers were very supportive to me, to us. They made sure that before our teaching schedules, our lesson plan and all our teaching materials were prepared and we are equipped with necessary intellectual and emotional resources. They have given us a chance to observed different classes so that we could have an idea of what was going on in Thai classrooms. They want us to know the students and familiarized ourselves with their behavior inside the classrooms before we teach so that it would be easier for us to plan on how we will manage the class and deliver the lesson. My mentor also oriented us about the method that they have used in making a lesson plan. They allowed us to use the method that we were using in the Philippines but I chose to try to use their method, the Open-Approach. I've decided to use it because I wanted to learn something new, I wanted to widen my knowledge about the different methods, strategies and techniques in teaching and I wanted to experience how Thai teachers teach. In the Philippines we've been using a daily plan, a detailed one but in Thailand, they've been using a semi-detailed unit plan.

(This is the the lesson plan of my mentor that I have used as guide.)

I have tried to use their method but I also applied what I have learned in the Philippines about learning styles, multiple intelligences, learners' needs, different learning activities, teaching techniques and strategies and classroom management. It was extra challenging for me because I would teach two different classes, M1/2 and M1/4. M1/2 was a special class, the students in this class were advance compared to other class, while M1/4 was a normal class. When I have observed them I have seen the difference in terms of level of intelligence and understanding even in their English proficiency. That's why I have also paid attention to that aspect because we were asked to make one lesson plan and used it for teaching two different classes. So I have tried my best to construct a lesson plan that was suitable for both classes. I have also considered the behavior and interest of the students in making my lesson plans. During my observation period, I have noticed that the students were very hyper. They always wanted to talk to their friends and share their ideas inside the classroom and most of the students moved from one place to another. That's why I have planned some activities that would match with their behavior and interest. Some activities that would give them freedom to talk with their friends and expressed their ideas with the whole class like group discussion and reporting. I also chose game-based activities where they could learn while doing what they loved to do- MOVING. I let them manipulate some jigsaw puzzles, draw by playing pictionary game, and act by playing mime games.

MY OWN TEACHING PLAN

In making my teaching plan, I considered four aspects, first was the curriculum of the school and the way Thai teachers teach, second was the things that I've learned in my country/university, third was the level of intelligence and understanding of both classes and lastly the behavior and interest of the learners. By considering those aspects I had come up with this:

I had made a teaching plan for 3 periods. It didn't covered all the lessons for the whole unit because my mentor only given me 3 topics just enough for 3 periods. But she had also given me extra 1 period in case the 3 periods was not enough to discuss the lessons assigned to me and for me to have time for the summarization of the lessons.

My kind and supportive mentor also allowed me to have consultations with her about the lesson plan, power point presentation, handout, worksheets and other teaching materials that I had made. She had given me almost 2 weeks to prepare and finished those. She also given me comments and suggestions until the teaching plan and teaching materials were finalized. I've consult everything to her and asked for her approval. I also asked for the suggestions of other English teachers for the best results of my actual teaching.
